What gets longer the more you work on it? Sounds like a riddle, but it’s not… unfortunately, it’s the to-do list, which in publishing never ends. It’s one step forward and fifty steps back, but it’s what makes the days interesting!

So, if I was an uber-organised person with unlimited hours in a day and could forgo the need for sleep, these are a few of things I could work through to chip away at the Scorpius to-do list!

– Package and post all reading copies to retailers (sorry, patient lady at the Post Office!)
– Learn advanced XML (yes it is as brain-muddling as it sounds!) – necessary to help get to grips with content management.
– Schedule all titles and printing for 2025.
– Finish the new updated database with various details: retailers, wholesalers, distributors…
– Update the website with author page, dyslexic-specific store page, new banners etc.
– Finish the second and third round drafts of three cover designs (reveal will come soon once they’re finalised!)
– Revise sales and marketing strategy
– Create new author packs with all the necessary information and send them off for signing/completing.
– Update list of prizes suitable for our books and business and enter them
– Photoshop images for cover designs
– Chase Waterstones about our account that still hasn’t been set up (paperwork was sent at the start of the year!)
– Edit everything that needs editing (currently three manuscripts)
– Filing (own very own neverending story!)
– Chase invoices
– Pay bills
– Bookkeeping
– Do that thing I keep putting off
– Do that other thing…
[trails off…]
